The people's democratic Republic of Lao is located in the centre of of Indochina, sharing borders with China to north west, Thailand to west, Cambodia to the south, and Vietnam to the east.
Laos has a population of a bout 5.5 million people who make up of 48 different ethnic groups within an area of 236, 800 square kilometres. Around 70 % of its terrain is mountainous reaching a maximum elevation of 2, 820 m in Xieng Khouang province. The landscapes of northern Laos and regions adjacent to Vietnam in particular are dominated by hills. The Mekong river is the main geographical feature in the west and in fact, from a natural border with Thailand and some areas. The Mekong flows through nearly 1, 900 km of Laos. In the south the Mekong reaches a breadth of 14 km, creating an area with thousands of land. The capital Vientiane and all other major cities and towns are located of the bank of the Mekong river, while virtually every village depends on the vital bon between the land and water. The first kingdom of Laos is Lane Xang kingdom (the Land of Million Elephants).
Day 1: Vientiane Arrival ( L )
Arrive in Vientiane. Meet your guide at the airport, transfer to hotel for check in. In the afternoon, city tour. Visit That Luang Stupa, Pratuxai, Ho Prakeo, Wat Sisaket. Watch the sunset on the banks of Mekong River. Overnight at hotel.
Day 2: Vang Vieng - Luang Pra Bang ( B , L )
Transfer to airport for flight to Luang Pra Bang. Transfer to hotel. In the afternoon, city tour. Visit the National Museum in the former Royal Palace. Climb Phousi Hill, visit Wat Visoun, Wat Mai?€? Overnight in Luang Pra Bang.
Day 3: Luang Pra Bang ( B , L )
Visit Wat Xieng Thong. Exursion to Pak Ou with boat trip on the Mekong River to visit rice-wine distillation site at Ban Sang Hai on the way. Upon arrival visit to holy Tham Ting Caves with thousand of Buddha statues. Afternoon travel by road to see Kouang Sy waterfalls. Continue to visit and shop Tai Lu textiles at Ban Pha Nom, visit mulberry paper making at Ban Xang Khong. Overnight in Luang Pra Bang.
Day 4: Luang Pra Bang - Vientiane, ( B )
Transfer to airport for flight back to Vientiane. Free at leisure. Night in Vientiane.
Day 5: Vientiane - Pakse, ( B , L )
Transfer to airport for flight to Pakse. Travel by vehicle to view Khone Phapheng waterfalls (the biggest waterfalls in SE Asia on Mekong River). Boat to Done Khone. See Li Pi waterfalls and local boat cruise to see the fresh water dolphins. Overnight in Done Khone.
Day 6: Pakse ( B , L )
Local boat to the main land. Travel by road to see Wat Phou (ruins of pre-angkor temples). Continue the road to Bolaven Plateau to see Tad Fane (38km from Pakse) and coffee plantation. Overnight in Pakse.
Day 7: Pakse - Vientiane ( B , )
Transfer to airport for flight back to Vientiane. Rest of the day free at leisure.
Day 8: Vientiane Departure ( B )
Transfer to airport for departure flight. End of services.
